Self-contained, automated cell culture system mimics mammalian physiology to create an optimal environment for cell growth and protein secretion. This system automates mammalian cell culture processes and is ideal for production of monoclonal antibodies and other cell secreted proteins. This cell culture system meets the requirements of cell culture technology such as cGMP production, therapeutic and diagnostic proteins, autologous vaccine development, human cell line expansion, oncology studies, drug testing, and vascular research. Simple design and software automation allow the operator to focus on production of the end product rather than system operation. The unique two-component design minimizes the need for a cleanroom and reduces the risk of process contamination.

The automated process control and a sterile, disposable, hollow fiber bioreactor produce clarified supernatant of up to 5mg/mL of monoclonal antibodies with less than six hours of work per month. Throughout the culture duration, secreted product is continuously harvested and stored in the built-in refrigeration unit. The system supports up to ~10¹¹ cells and yields up to ~15g in 30 days. Automated lactate control software creates an optimal feed strategy to reduce media consumption and eliminate excessive sampling. Product concentration is 10 to 30 times higher than conventional cell culture methods such as semi-permeable bags, flasks, stirred tanks, or roller bottles.

The system features a touch-screen monitor. Multiple units can be monitored and controlled remotely through a web-based application. The software enables automatic control of pH, temperature, feed rates, lactate concentration, and harvest rates. Additional features include user-modifiable alarms for control parameters, media volumes, operator identification, automatic event logging, electronic data storage and retrieval, and full system state recovery from power failure.
