Intrinsically safe respirator system protects workers against gases, vapors, and particulates by drawing ambient air through a filter/cartridge and supplying air through a breathing tube into the worker’s headpiece. System protects user in potentially explosive environments by guarding against organic solvent vapors and high dust concentrations that can trigger sparks from equipment. A smooth finish, sealed and gasketed design, and downward sloping configuration ensure the chemically resistant blower will withstand the most rigorous of decon procedures. Blower provides 33% more airflow than NIOSH minimum and is voltage-regulated to ensure consistency. A rotometer-style airflow indicator is used to check airflow prior to donning. The wide padded belt provides added comfort while evenly distributing the weight. A 77dBA audible low voltage alarm is positioned inside the breathing tube connector on the housing of the blower to direct the sound into the hood and alert the user to replace the battery. The motor vibrates when voltage drops below alarm threshold. The pulsing sound also travels up the breathing tube to the user's hood. Alarm also alerts user before protection is lost.

The battery pack on the respirator is engineered inside the profile of the housing while allowing easy removal and change-out. The battery is gasketed and the battery compartment is independent of the airflow chamber to maintain blower integrity. The lightweight NiMH battery lasts seven to eight hours and does not exhibit the “memory” problems of NiCad batteries. Battery charger incorporates a trickle charge feature as well as voltage and temperature monitoring to assure batteries will be kept at peak levels of performance even if left on charge for long periods of time.

The PAPR system includes a choice of Tychem* hoods. The QC series hoods are poly-coated for use with pharmaceutical manufacturing, painting, healthcare applications, and general industry. The SL series hoods all feature taped and sealed seams and are SARANEX* film-coated for use in applications where chemical protection properties are critical.

NIOSH-approved for HE, OVAGHE, and NBC. FM-approved for Class I, Division I groups C and D; Class II, Division II groups E, F, and G; Class III, Division I; and hazardous locations.
