Unit protects against contamination in sensitive PCR amplification reactions. UV irradiation of working area prior to use blocks replication of contaminating DNA sequences by causing adjacent pyrimidines to undergo dimerization. Workstation protects against airborne or cross-contamination by limiting exposure of experimental setup to open lab environment.

The 12-hour count-down timer with time-hold position (supplied with the UV germicidal lamp) conveniently controls PCR workstation decontamination. To decontaminate, the user simply UV-irradiates the work area with doors closed prior to PCR procedure and just after use. The acrylic, non-ventilated PCR workstation measures 61Hx61Dcm (24x24") and is available in widths of 76.2cm (30"), 91.4cm (36") (single door closure), and 121.9cm (48") (double door closure).

Dual UV bulb option decreases the possibility of PCR amplification of contaminating DNA by delivering twice the intensity of UV light and irradiating what otherwise might be shadowed areas. The Dual UV bulb format is recommended when the workstation will be used to decontaminate apparatus and reagents.

Each PCR workstation is equipped with the following: an acid resistant black Formica* work surface, tempered safety glass fascia, duplex 110V electrical outlet mounted in ceiling (for domestic use), two fluorescent lamps, one or two (dependent on single or dual) UV germicidal (250nm) lamps with 12-hour timer, and single or double door closures.

Accessory table and accessory locking casters transform the PCR workstation into a moveable work area that doesn’t infringe on valuable benchtop work space.
