A fungal metabolite and antiprotozoal agent that acts as a potent inhibitor of parasitic histone deacetylase (IC₅₀ = 700 pM) and HeLa cell proliferation in vitro (IC₅₀ = 50 - 100 nM). Induces transcriptional activation of p21^WAF1 in a reversible manner. Also prevents H-ras-induced invasive phenotype of MCF10A cells possibly by down-regulating MMP-2. Purity: ³95% by HPLC.
