Inhibits the growth of different types of transformed cells. Has been reported to suppress lipid peroxidation. Inhibits ornithine decarboxylase, protein tyrosine kinase (PTK), and lipoxygenase activities. Also induces apoptosis in cloned rat embryo fibroblast (CREF) cells transformed by a number of different oncogenes. Has also recently been shown to act as a potent and specific inhibitor of NF-kappaB activation.
