The Si (silica gel) monolithic stationary phase features a bimodal pore structure that consists of mesopores and macropores. The mesopores form the fine porous structure of the column interior and create a very large surface area on which adsorption of the target compound occurs. The large macropores form a dense network of pores and allow a high flow rate due to a low resistance factor. The resulting excellent accessibility of the mesopores assures fast adsorption and desorption kinetics because of short diffusion length inside the pores. This results in dramatically reduced separation times and increased productivity.
To ensure that no flow-through occurs, the column walls are clad with PEEK* polymeric material, which is chemically inert, biocompatible, and effectively eliminates metal from the fluid path. This enables the columns to be connected directly to each HPLC system and used as a "ready-to-use" column.
