A unique injection mold process creates a one-piece plate with virgin polypropylene wells and a rigid polycarbonate deck and skirt. The polypropylene wells have an inert, nonwetting surface that improves recovery while preventing DNA, RNA, and enzymes from binding, and the plate deck and skirt are made from polycarbonate to provide mechanical stability and facilitate plate handling.

These plates offer a 20% reduction in wall thickness compared to standard thin-walled wells, providing a snug fit for the well against thermal blocks and ensuring virtually undisturbed heat transfer from the block to the sample, while raised well rims optimize sealing effectiveness and reduce the risk of cross-contamination. They also feature a cut-away corner and alphanumeric grid referencing. Compatible with most thermal cyclers and autoclavable, the plates can be sealed with cap strips, adhesive films, or foils to protect against evaporation and heat sealing. They are also certified to be free of any detectable human DNA, DNase, RNase, and PCR inhibitors.

Semi-skirted plates have a 250µL well volume when used with cap strips. Skirted plates have a 150µL well volume when used with cap strips. Skirted plates feature a low profile design for enhanced PCR efficiency and are compatible with automated systems. Holes in the skirt facilitate plate positioning and removal from the thermal cycler block. Both semi-skirted and skirted plates can be labeled or bar-coded.

Each autoclavable cap strip (62111-540) consists of a strip of eight domed caps for oil-free sealing of wells and to protect samples against carryover contamination.

Heat sealing foils and films enable 100% evaporation prevention and easy sample storage. Peelable foil (80086-000) is easily removed from microplates and can be resealed. Sealing film is transparent to allow monitoring of samples. The pierceable foil (80086-002) can be easily punctured with standard pipet tips.

The adhesive PCR film (62111-362) and PCR foil (62111-360) seals PCR plates in conjunction with a thermal cycler with a screw-down or clamp-down heated lid. These autoclavable films and foils safeguard against the risk of evaporation. Films are transparent and allow monitoring of samples. Adhesive foils can be pierced with a pipet tip.

The heat sealer (62111-428) produces a 100% hermetic seal to eliminate any evaporation problems during PCR. Ideal for transport and storage, the sealer avoids cross-contamination. Samples are recovered by either piercing through the seals or by removing the seal with the foil stripper. Safety is ensured by a strategically positioned heating plate, an integrated thermostat, and compliance with all laboratory safety guidelines.
