The kit easily converts the Multiphor II electrophoresis system into a horizontal electrophoretic transfer unit. This method of semi-dry transfer provides fast, even, and efficient protein transfer from a gel to an immobilizing membrane. The transfer usually takes less than an hour and does not require a cooling period at the end of the transfer. Gel sizes up to 200x250mm (77/8x97/8") can be transferred. If smaller gels are used, the NovaBlot will accept up to four gels for simultaneous transfer by assembling two transfer sandwich stacks side by side. The resulting membranes may be used for a wide range of applications including general protein staining, immunoblotting, and glycoprotein detection.

The electrodes included in the kit are made of graphite to provide an even distribution of current across the entire surface. They are also each attached to acrylic plates so they do not touch each other when fitted together to prevent damage to the electrodes.
