Columns are supplied with WCS (Whatman Compression Screw) end fittings. Standard analytical columns are for research, methods development, and routine separations. After optimization, users may scale up or scale down to other size columns for greater speed or capacity. Columns are available prepacked with most Whatman Partisil 5µm or 10µm media. Use Partisil 10µm media where higher flow rates are indicated and back pressure must be minimized.

The Solvecon* precolumn, which saturates the mobile phase with silicate ions prior to sample injection, extends column life by preventing bed subsidence and void formation caused by pH above 7.0, temperatures above 50°C, concentrated aqueous buffers, and certain ion-pair reagents.

C8 is an endcapped monomeric phase with an 8.5% carbon load. Provides high efficiency and rapid mass transfer while maintaining excellent peak shape and stability over a range of aqueous mobile phase compositions. Recommended for ion pair chromatography. ODS is a C18 polymeric phase with a 5% carbon load. It is for normal adsorption and reversed phase partition. Dual-mode operation for added selectivity with 50% residual silanols. Particularly effective for compounds having greater water solubility when used in the reversed phase mode. ODS-2 is a C18 polymeric phase with a 16% carbon load. It is the most nonpolar and most retentive of the Partisil reversed phases. ODS-3 is a C18 polymeric phase with a 10.5% carbon load. Partisil media provide improved speed, efficiency, and resolution in applications requiring C18 phases. Endcapped for deactivation of silanols to minimize need for ion suppression or ion pairing agents. Provides optimal selectivity for products such as pharmaceuticals, natural products, food, biologicals, and environmental pollutants. PAC is a polar amino-cyano bonded phase with secondary amine groups for good thermal and chemical stability. Selectivity and rapid equilibrium allow separation mechanisms such as adsorption, reversed phase and weak anion exchange to be used. Extremely fast equilibrium across entire range of solvents from heptane to water. Partisil media is ideal for carbohydrate separations.

SAX is a strong anion exchanger based on quaternary ammonium groups (-NR3+). Stable from pH 1.5 to pH 7.5 when used with a Solvecon solvent conditioning column. Partisil media obtain the highest anion exchange efficiencies and resolution. For separation of nucleic acids, organic acids, and inorganic anions. SCX is a strong cation exchanger based on aromatic benzene sulfonic acid groups. Stable from pH 1.5 to pH 7.0 when used with a Solvecon solvent conditioning column. Exceptionally stable (chemically and thermally) Si-O-Si-C bond. Excellent for separation of nucleic acids, amino acids, polyamines, drugs, and other cationic species. Silica is a high efficiency stationary phase for adsorption chromatography. Provides good selectivity and high loading capacity for maximum resolution and fast analysis.

RACII columns are second generation rapid analysis chromatography columns for faster analytical separations and reduced solvent consumption. Unique end fitting geometry eliminates unswept corners to maximize resolution and peak symmetry. Operates at low back pressure, even at high flowrates, prolonging column life. Connects easily to modern LC instrumentation. Available prepacked with Partisil 5µm media.
