These benchtop bioreactors consist of a nutrient module (350-400mL) and a production module (35mL) separated by a semi-permeable dialysis membrane with a 3.5 or 12.5kDa molecular weight cutoff. Products such as monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, cells, and other high-MWCO components are retained inside the production module, resulting in high concentrations in a confined volume. This facilitates harvest and purification of cells and/or proteins.

With a 10-to-1 v/v ratio, the nutrient module provides an excellent nutrient reservoir as well as pH buffering capacity for the production module. The dialysis membrane and rotation of the bioreactor facilitates exchange of dissolved gases, nutrients, and waste metabolites for optimal growth and production conditions. The outward facing side of the production module consists of a thin, gas permeable silicone membrane enabling an exchange of O₂ and CO₂.

Bioreactor kits include four nutrient and production modules and a start-up support kit. The support kit includes eight 127mm filling tubes, eight 50mL syringes, twenty 2mL syringes, 20 sampling needles, six septum ports, plastic support stand, 5mL of antiFOAM concentrated liquid supplement, and 1mL of cellPROTECT concentrated liquid supplement. The antiFOAM supplement reduces foaming caused by high protein concentrations. The cellPROTECT supplement reduces shear stress on cells. The disposable plastic filling tubes and septum-style sampling ports are luer-compatible. The universal turning device holds up to four bioreactors and has an adjustable speed to accommodate a wide variety of cell types and applications.
