Purified water is utilized extensively in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes as a cleaning or rinsing agent, as an excipient in media and buffer preparation, and in the reconstitution of products in both therapeutic and diagnostic applications.

Cell culture grade water is designed for media and buffer preparation and LAL reagent testing applications. It is endotoxin screened and has no detectable gram-negative bacteria, both of which are factors that interfere with normal cell growth and proliferation. The purification process includes deionization, reverse osmosis, distillation, and 0.1µm filtration. It ultimately meets an endotoxin limit of <0.05EU/mL measured by turbidimetric assay.

Molecular biology grade water is purified, tested, and certified to contain no detectable contaminating activity in DNase, RNase, and protease assays. It is also very low in endotoxins with a limit of 0.05EU/mL. The purification process includes deionization, reverse osmosis, distillation, and 0.1µm filtration. Applications include buffer preparation, DNA/RNA purification, DNA sequencing, gene mapping, and cloning.

WFI quality water undergoes an extensive purification process that includes multimedia filtration, mineral and hardness reduction, reverse osmosis, continuous deionization, and multi-effect distillation with continuous hot loop circulation. WFI quality water follows the USP monograph for water for injection packaged in bulk for commercial use.
