Fast absorbing surgical gut suture is a strand of collagenous material prepared from the submucosal layers of the ovine small intestine or from the serosal layers of the bovine small intestine. Sutures are sterile and elicit only a slight to minimal tissue reaction during absorption. The use of this suture is contraindicated in patients with known sensitivities or allergies to collagen, as gut is a collagen based material. Fast absorbing surgical gut sutures differ from USP minimum strength requirements by less than 30%.

Note: These sutures have been designed to absorb at a rapid rate and must be used only on dermal tissue for external knot tying procedures. Not for use where prolonged approximation of tissue under stress is required. These sutures should never be used on internal tissue.
