Lightweight, portable automatic steam distillation unit for nitrogen/protein determinations. A spring-loaded retainer holds digestion tube firmly in place. Built-in sodium hydroxide pump/dispenser allows safe control of the amount of caustic material added. Steam is produced using an 1100W heating element surrounding a 1000mL flask. A sight gauge permits monitoring of water level on steam generator. Each distillation takes 5 to 10 minutes. Condenser with ventilation valve prevents any siphoning of distillate back into the condenser chamber. Distillation timer switch is an infinitely adjustable 0 to 15 minute timer that controls the dispensing of steam into the digestion tube. Distribution head acts as a junction for the steam and the NaOH delivery tubes and serves as a trap preventing the NaOH from entering the receiving flask. A molded tray catches spills. The 1000mL steam generation flask is made of borosilicate glass. The generation heater is 1100W. (Labconco 6520000)
