These procedure stations are specialized Class II biosafety cabinets that provide protection for personnel, animals, and the environment. Stations create particulate-free conditions for conducting various small animal research tasks including cage changing, weighing, anesthesia delivery, and surgical procedures. During operation, room air is drawn into the inlet grille and passes into a plenum located under the work surface. This inward airflow protects the operator by preventing the escape of particulates inside the enclosure. The blower draws air from inside the work area through the back plenum of the enclosure, where approximately 70% of the air is recirculated through the supply HEPA filter and back over the work area. This HEPA-filtered vertical laminar airflow provides ISO Class 5 (FED-STD-209E Class 100/M3.5) conditions that protect the animals from environmental and cross-contamination. After passing through the exhaust HEPA filter and carbon filter, the balance of air inside the enclosure (approx. 30%) is discharged to the room.

The unique filter monitoring system utilizes an electronically commutated motor (ECM) to precisely control airflow without the need for airflow sensors. Two 99.99% efficient HEPA filters trap particulates including allergens, bacteria, and viruses. The Contain-Air* negative pressure channel draws air in, preventing loss of containment at the top of the sash without the use of seals or gaskets, which can degrade. A trace odor carbon post-filter traps odors and low-molecular weight contaminants in the exhaust air and prevents their escape into the room. Reserve-Air* secondary airflow slots maintain safe airflow in the event that the inlet grille area inadvertently becomes blocked. The Night-Smart* system idles the blower at low speed when the sash is fully closed to help maintain a clean inside environment during periods of non-use.

A line-of-sight information center display, mounted inside for constant monitoring of activities, provides airflow alerts and messages when, for example, the sash is too high, or a filter is being loaded. A bar graph displays remaining filter life, providing performance reassurance and accurate planning for future filter replacement. Easy-to-clean touchpad controls on right-hand post allow manual activation of blower, timer, audible alarm mute, and menu selection.

Stations are available with a 25.4cm (10") or 30.5cm (12") working sash opening. Sash opens to 55.1cm (21¹¹/₁₆") for loading. Viewing height is 69.9cm (27¹/₂"). Bright fluorescent lighting includes a timer that can be set to a specific time period to reduce interference with animals' circadian rhythms. Models with service fixture(s) also include a UV lamp for secondary decontamination.

The 115V models are ETL listed with UL 3101-1/61010-1 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 1010.1-92 conformity. The 115V models with 24.4cm (10") sash opening are NSF International listed.
