A variety of horns are available to adapt Sonicator cell disruptors (see 97007-386 series) for differing sample size and intensity requirements. An increase in horn diameter decreases intensity and amplitude.

Microtip, standard, and high intensity horns are inserted directly into the sample and offer high-intensity sonication. Tapered microtip horns must be used with the standard 12.7mm (¹/₂") tapped horn (40000-618). The special stepped microtip horn is two-piece and can attach directly without a standard horn. Standard and high intensity horns are available solid or tapped. Solid horns are constructed of a single piece of titanium and are required when working with low surface tension liquids. Tapped horns have replaceable tips that can be changed when they show excess wear. High intensity horns generate twice the amplitude when compared with standard horns of the same diameter.

Horn extenders, also available in solid or tapped varieties, can reach into long neck vessels. Half-wave extenders add 12.7cm (5") to the horn’s length; full-wave extenders add 25.4 cm (10") to the horn’s length.

Cup horns offer high throughput, indirect sonication while eliminating cross contamination, aerosolizing, and foaming. They allow samples to be processed in sealed tubes or vials and are ideal for sterile or pathological sample processing. Cup horns require use of either the cup horn stand 40000-716 or the Sonabox* acoustic enclosure 40000-704. Each is supplied with a microtube holder.
