This fluoropolymer resin-lined bomb provides convenience and rapidity in preparation of contamination-free samples of silicates, glass, igneous rocks, nitrides and other refractory materials for subsequent treatment by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. It contains a 23mL, thick-walled, removable, fluoropolymer resin cup in which samples can be treated with acids at temperatures to 150°C and pressures to 1200psi without corrosion.

The fluoropolymer resin cup fits into a sturdy metal body and is sealed by turning down on a knurled cap. Closure is spring loaded to remain gas-tight during heating and cooling phases. Heat and pressure may be applied to the bomb to increase the intensity of the mineral-acid dissolving action. When using samples that dissolve slowly at atmospheric pressure, the bomb may be immersed in a heating bath or set in an oven.
