Poppers protein extraction reagents use different detergent components based on the intended sample type or downstream application. Additional components, such as protease inhibitors, salt, or chelating agents may be added to the reagent for various applications.

B-PER* reagents are designed to gently lyse E. coli and other gram-negative bacterial cells and extract soluble recombinant proteins. These reagents are also effective in removing soluble proteins from inclusion bodies. B-PER II bacterial protein extraction reagent provides more efficient protein extraction from smaller samples. I-PER* enables gentle extraction of soluble protein from baculovirus-infected insect cells that have been grown in suspension or monlayer culture. M-PER* reagent uses a non-denaturing detergent to prepare total cell lysate from cultured mammalian or insect cells with significantly higher yields than with freeze/thaw or sonication methods. The lysates prepared with M-PER are usable with most assay protocols. P-PER* will lyse plant leaf, stem, root, seed, and flower cells without liquid nitrogen and without mechanical grinding in about 10 minutes. The reagent kit comes with all three P-PER reagents and 20 polypropylene mesh bags. T-PER* reagent is designed for total protein extraction from tissue samples. This reagent is the only Poppers protein extraction reagent to require mechanical or manual homogenization. Y-PER* reagent allows for disruption of the tough yeast cell wall without damaging the cell or its contents and without the use of enzymes. Y-PER can also be used effectively to extract proteins from gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria. Y-PER plus dialyzable yeast protein extraction reagent is phosphate-free and features a much lower ionic strength. Lysates prepared with Y-PER are not compatible with BCA* and Coomassie protein assays.
