The sulfo-NHS and NHS-PEO₄ kits make it easy to biotinylate antibodies or purified proteins. The reagents included link biotin to proteins via a stable, amide bond. The negative charge of the sulfonate group enhances the water solubility of the reagent, while preventing it from crossing cell membranes. These kits include Zeba* desalt spin columns for at least 85% protein recovery, more concentrated samples, and shorter processing time.

Solid-phase kits immobilize the selected antibody to a metal-chelated affinity support and perform the biotinylation in the solid phase. This protocol allows for potential enrichment, instead of dilution, of the IgG and limits over-biotinylation. It also makes it easy to remove spent or unreacted reagents and does not require any dialysis or desalting. Amine-directed biotinylation requires one hour, and sulfhydryl-directed biotinylation requires two hours. These kits are available in either a mini-spin format for 0.1-1.0mg IgG or a pre-packed column format for 1-10mg IgG.
