This air sampling system is for the quantitative and reproducible collection of airborne bacteria, yeasts, and viruses. It is routinely used to detect airborne microorganisms in cleanrooms and isolators. The unit is ideal for use in pharmaceutical, biological research, hospital, food/beverage industry, and veterinary research applications.

The MD8 airscan air sampler allows flow rate and sampling time to be selected and reliably held, ensuring sampling of the required air volume. A specially developed calibration unit (11302-662) allows the user to easily calibrate the air sampler.

The MD8 airscan unit is specifically designed to work with the gelatin membrane filter method. This method offers advantages over other methods for the collection of airborne microorganisms. It allows the filter surface to be positioned in the direction of the airflow in the test area. Also, the flow rate through the filter can be matched to the velocity of the air being sampled; this is called isokinetic sampling and it is the accepted method to ensure accurate sampling of both large and small particles. In addition, the membranes’ 3µm pore size and large surface area enable the user to achieve an impressive 1m³ air sample rate in under 8 minutes. Lastly, the gelatin membranes not only retain bacteria and viruses, but they also guard against their dehydration or inactivation. This maintains the viability of the organisms for a relevant sampling time. In addition to the MD8 airscan unit, the gelatin membrane filter method requires gelatin disc filters 11302-710, or a gelatin filter unit (11302-698 or 11302-700) and its adapter (11302-696). A set of connectors (11302-706) and 2m of PVC connecting hose (11302-708) are used with the unit to operate it outside the test area using the gelatin membrane filter method.
