Vivaspin disposable ultrafiltration devices are ideal for concentrating biological samples. These concentrators may be used in swing-bucket or fixed-angle rotors that accept conical-bottom centrifuge tubes. The unique vertical membrane design and thin channel filtration chamber minimize membrane fouling and provide high-speed concentrations, even with particle-laden solutions.
The Vivaspin 500 and 2 devices are specifically designed with low internal surface and membrane area in order to achieve superior recoveries from very dilute solutions. The Vivaspin 2 offers the choice of directly pipetting the concentrate from the dead stop pocket built into the bottom of the concentrator, or alternately reverse-spinning the concentrate into the recovery cap, which can then be sealed for storage.
Vivaspin 6, 15R, and 20 devices feature twin vertical membranes for fast processing: in a single spin, solutions can be concentrated more than 100 times. Samples are typically concentrated in 20 to 30 minutes with macromolecular recoveries in excess of 95%. These devices feature longitudinal membrane orientation and thin channel concentration chambers to provide optimum cross-flow conditions. Macromolecules collect in an impermeable concentrate pocket integrally molded below the membrane surface, thereby eliminating the risk of filtration to dryness. For single sample processing, the Vivaspin 20 concentrator can be filled up with up to 15mL and pressurized for benchtop concentration.
The high flux polyethersulfone (PES) membrane offers a broad chemical and pH compatibility while maintaining high flow rates. PES membrane is recommended for use with most solutions when retentate recovery is of primary importance. Hydrosart* is a stabilized cellulose-based membrane that is extremely hydrophilic and offers very low protein binding characteristics. Hydrosart is ideal for concentrating or desalting those solutions that quickly foul other membranes.
