These systems are designed for chemiluminescence, fluorescence, 2D, and colorimetric imaging. Systems can also be used with fluorescent and colorimetric gels; colony plaques; microtiter plates; autoradiograph film; Northern, Southern, Western, and dot blots; 1D analysis; colony counting; densitometry; membrane arrays; and live plant studies.
Three types of 115V, 8W single intensity UV transilluminators are available, each with a built-in ethidium bromide emission filter. The FirstLight* FI-26X model offers a 302nm wavelength and a 25x26cm (97/8x101/4") filter. The LM-26 model offers 302 and 365nm wavelengths, and a 21x26cm (81/4x101/4") filter. The LMS-26 model offers 254, 302, and 365 wavelengths, and a 21x26cm (81/4x101/4") filter.
Four scientific-grade, high resolution cameras are available with the BioSpectrum systems. The Gel camera is noncooled and offers 1.4 megapixels, 16 bit depth, 1360x1024 resolution, and 43% peak quantum efficiency. The Chemi camera is cooled to -28°C (-18.4°F) and offers 2.0 megapixels, 16 bit depth, 1600x1200 resolution, and 56% peak quantum efficiency. The BioChemi is cooled to -28°C (-18.4°F) and offers 4.2 megapixels, 16 bit depth, 2048x2048 resolution, and 55% peak quantum efficiency. The OptiChemi camera is cooled to -60°C (-76°F) and offers 3.2 megapixels, 16 bit depth, 2184x1472 resolution, and 90% peak quantum efficiency. All cameras may be used in fluorescence, colorimetric, and chemiluminescent applications, except for the gel camera, which should not be used in chemiluminescent applications. Cameras fit securely into topside chamber of darkroom.
The light-tight darkroom enclosure features an overhead white LED light with high/low settings, a UV safety switch, a full access door with a UV-blocking viewing window, and power indication lights on the top exterior. Highly uniform white light plate allows illumination of Coomassie blue and silver stained gels. The transilluminator is accessed via sliding tray at the darkroom base. Darkroom dimensions: 46.3Hx35.6Wx28Dcm (181/4x14x11").
VisionWorks* LS image acquisition and analysis software is configured with the system and controls the motorized zoom lens, emission filter selection, light sources, and system power. It also provides tools for image capture, colony counting, and analysis of gels, blots, plates, and membranes. Specific capabilities include image enhancement, one-touch automated macros, extensive report generation, data export, advanced 1D lane analysis, and support for 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
The optional BioLite Multispectral Source is a 150W quartz halogen visible light source designed for use with fiber optic bundles. It supplies a directed source for the illumination of live plants and animals and features a six-position mechanical dimmer permitting variable intensity. The closed optical path tightly controls the output spectrum, allowing for consistent, repeatable measurements with superior signal to noise. Each kit includes excitation and emission filters, a sample tray, and a visible light source via fiber optic bundles.
