Clinical Centrifuges

These centrifuges are for use in doctor's offices, hospital clinics, and veterinary offices. A clinical centrifuge spins blood, urine, and fecal samples. Centrifuge tubes for clinical centrifuges are designed specifically for the test to be performed. The speed of these centrifuges range from 300 to 13000 rpm (up to 17,000 x g). Some are designed to spin only one type of tube; for example a hematocrit centrifuge spins only hematocrit capillary tubes. Some have adapters or additional rotors so the operator can spin 15ml urine tubes, blood collection tubes, and 1.5/2.0ml microtubes.image

Choosing a Clinical Centrifuge

A clinical centrifuge is used for blood samples, urine sample, and fecal samples. If you are only concerned with blood tubes a basic clinical centrifuge which spins up to 4000 rpm and receives 2ml to 10ml round bottom blood tubes will be just right. These are the most affordable centrifuges. Typical specifications for a basic clinical centrifuge will be "6 x 10ml" or "8 x 10ml" this indicates the maximum number of tubes and the maximum size of the tubes. Typical Maximum speed will be 3400 or 4000 RPM.

If you must spin the 12 or 15ml Urine tubes or fecal tubes you must choose a somewhat larger centrifuge designated to handle 12 or 15ml tubes; these will have the specification 6 x 15ml or 6 x 12ml. Some clinical centrifuges can handle not only urine and blood tubes but the 2ml microtubes and hematocrit tubes as well.
